St. Patrick Catholic School is unique to the Springfield Diocese in that it is run by an independent Board of Directors.  The board members are made up of a diverse group of Springfield citizens and business persons. The Diocesan Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, is an exofficio Director of St. Patrick Catholic School and will be allowed to appoint a person in his stead to attend Directors meetings; and because of the unique relationship between the Diocesan Bishop and St. Patrick Catholic School, the Diocesean Bishop retains certain reserve powers over St. Patrick Catholic School. St. Patrick Catholic School Board of Directors governs the school by setting policy and providing budget oversight. The purpose and duties of the Board shall in all cases be in harmony with the intent and spirit of all policies established by the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois and the Roman Catholic Church.
